Settings & Options

Im Register Einstellungen und Optionen können Sie die Vorgaben für die Berechnung sowie die geometrischen Toleranzen der Objekte anpassen.

Manufacturing method and Knicklinie

You can select the production type of the cross-section from the list. The following production types are available:

  • --
  • Hot-rolled
  • Cold-Formed
  • Welded
  • Sawn
  • Glued-Laminated Timber

In the Steel Design add-on, the production method determines which part of the standard is used for design.

Info

The production type 'Cold-Formed' is set automatically if you have activated the calculation of the effective cross-section according to EN 1993-1-3.

You can select the buckling curve of the cross-section about the axis y and z from the list. Buckling curves are irrelevant for RSECTION. The specifications for applying imperfections or for stability analyzes in the design add-ons only come into effect when using the cross-sections in RFEM/RSTAB.

Stresses on Elements

The two check boxes control, for which locations of the element the stresses are determined: They can be calculated for the Most Unfavorable Element Edge (default) or the Element Center Lines only.

Effective Section Analysis Settings

The effective cross-section analysis settings are displayed if in the Main tab.

Additional bending moments

For cross-sections that are not subjected to double symmetry and subjected to compression, the centroidal position of the effective cross-section shifts compared to the gross cross-section. The external compressive force acting centrically on the gross cross-section now acts eccentrically on the effective cross-section, and an additional bending moment is created. This additional bending moment is considered in the calculation by default. Select the check box if you want to neglect this additional bending moment.

Iterations

An iterative procedure is required to determine the effective cross-section. In the 'Maximum number of iterations' text box, you can define the highest possible number of calculation runs. As soon as the difference between the results of two iterations falls below the limit defined in the 'Maximum Difference Between Iterations' text box, the calculation stops.

Consider effective widths according to EN 1993-1-5, Annex E

This check box is only accessible if you have activated the Base standard EN 1993-1-1 and EN 1993-1-5. Annex E of EN 1993-1-5 describes an alternative method for determining the effective sections for stresses below the yield strength. Activate this check box if you want to calculate the effective cross-section according to Annex E.

Model Tolerances

When modeling or importing data from a CAD program, slight geometric differences may occur in the model objects. RSECTION corrects these inconsistencies automatically if certain distances fall below the 'Tolerance' fields. For example, points that are very close to each other are combined, lines located outside of planes are integrated into parts, or two lines running minimally in different directions are considered as parallel.

The preset tolerances are suitable for most models. In the case of small model dimensions, it may be necessary to adjust the tolerances accordingly.

Info

The tooltips appearing for the boxes explain how the tolerances affect the model.

Subpanel Generator Settings

With the Tolerance for straight subpanels, you can specify the angle between two elements from which a support should be created. If elements are connected at an equal or smaller angle, they are considered as a connected subpanel.

The 'Generate shallow curved subpanels acc. to EN 1999-1-1, 6.1.4.3 (4) check box' is only accessible if you have activated the Smooth check box in the Base has selected the standard EN 1999-1-1.
